DAVAO CITY – Super bantamweight prospect "Magic" Mike Plania of General Santos City dropped Matias Agustin Arriagada of Argentina twice en route to a unanimous decision on Saturday, at the Miccosukee Indian Gaming Resort in Miami, Florida, USA.

The 22-year-old Plania (21W-L1-0D, KO11) started strong and immediately unleashed his relentless attack, dropping the Argentine in the opening round.

Sensing danger, Arriagada retreated and survived the round. It was in the 6th round that Plania dropped Arriagada again but the Argentine was able to last throughout the fight.

The score on the rest of the rounds went to Plania due to his aggression while his opponent tried to stay alive every round.

All the judges scored 60-52.

"I badly wanted to knock him out. I tried to cut him and corner him but he was playing to survive," said Plania.

Plania was expecting Arriagada to go toe to toe and was chasing him the whole time.

"I could have stopped him but I am happy with the win. I am praying for a title on the next fight," Plania stated.

Sanman CEO Jim Claude Manangquil was contented with his ward's performance.

"Mike keeps on improving. You cannot knockout out an opponent who doesn't want to engage, so I cannot blame my fighter," said Manangquil. (PNA)
