CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela -- The virtue of cohesive family life in a rural setting is the highlight of the locally produced advocacy film, “Mammangi: Abot-Kamay Ang Pangarap”, which has received praise from locals as a good-quality project that imparts good values.

The film, directed by multi-awarded director-producer Romm Burlat and entirely shot in this city, had its special screening recently at the Ilagan Community Center here, attended by some 7,000 Isabelinos, many of whom were students.

Aside from Burlat, national and local actors starred in the movie such as Jay-R Macapagal, town councilor Jay Eveson Diaz, Kenn Barrica, Jhane Santiaguel, Seika Samonte, and city general services officer Ricky Laggui who acted as Mayor Josemarie Diaz.

The film focuses on the "Mammangi Festival", which is celebrated every last week of May in this city.

Mammangi is an Ybanag word for harvesting or planting corn, the city’s main agricultural crop aside from palay.

Diaz said the festival “honors the farmers, who have been regarded as the real foundation of Ilagan's economy” and is celebrated as a thanksgiving activity for a good harvest.

Students, who were among those who watched the movie during the special screening, praised the well-produced film.

Isabela National High School students Nicole Elizabeth Ocampo, Elyza Grace Punzalan, Lee Angelique Diquiatco and Jesciel Zipagan described the short film as a “scintillating movie which depicts the family as the basic foundation of life”.

Ocampo said she cried as the actors and actresses “effectively played their roles” and touched the hearts and minds of the viewers.

“It reminds us of the affirmation of the actors to think twice before doing something because it may affect your whole life,” she added. (PNA)
