Bataan's Covid-19 cases climb to 125

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The number of patients confirmed positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in this province continues to rise, with six new cases recorded, bringing the total number of those afflicted to 125.

Based on the Provincial Health Office (PHO) report as of 7 p.m. Thursday, the new cases are those of a 35-year-old female and a 51-year-old male from Pilar; a 22-year-old male, 28-year old-male and a 19-day-old girl from Balanga City; and a 44-year-old woman from Dinalupihan.

PHO chief, Dr. Rosanna Buccahan said four of the new cases are health workers of the government-run Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).

Meanwhile, the number of deaths from the virus stayed at six but recoveries increased to 53 after 10 new ones were added to the list.

Those who newly-recovered are a month-old boy from Orani; a 63-year-old woman from Mariveles; two 23-year-old women, a 46-year-old man, and a 36-year-old man from Balanga City; a 32-year-old and a 36-year-old, both women, from Samal; a 28-year-old man from Hermosa; and a 31-year-old woman from Orani.

Out of the 2,284 subjected to laboratory examinations, 125 were confirmed, 522 are waiting for the result while 1,637, including 28 on Thursday, were tested negative of the virus.

Governor Albert Garcia and the League of Municipalities of Bataan, headed by its president, Dinalupihan Mayor Maria Angela Garcia, have requested for the extension until May 31 of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the province to give way to mass testing.

President Rodrigo Duterte has included Bataan in the list of those provinces that would be downgraded to general community quarantine status effective May 16.

The regional Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) has recommended the ECQ extension to the national IATF. (PNA)
