MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reported 2,630 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the country’s total active cases to 61,766.
In its daily Covid-19 bulletin, the DOH also reported 494 new recoveries, bringing the total tally to 232,399 nationwide, and 69 new deaths for a total of 5,196.
The total number of infections across the country stands at 299,361.
The DOH said the National Capital Region (NCR) reported the highest number of new cases with 1,091, followed by Cavite with 196, Laguna with 171, Negros Occidental with 142, and Rizal with 141.
Some 87 percent of the active cases are mild, 9 percent are asymptomatic, 2.8 percent are critical, and 1.2 percent are severe.
Based on a four-week moving average, the number of Covid-19 deaths has continued to taper off, with the highest number of deaths last recorded on August 6 to 13.
To date, less than half of the country’s beds dedicated to Covid-19 cases are occupied, while only 24 percent of its 2,100 ventilators are in use.
The country’s 1,900 beds in intensive care units (ICU) are 48-percent occupied, along with 42 percent of 14,100 isolation beds and 45 percent of 5,700 ward beds.
In the NCR, the number of available Covid-19 beds is retreating from critical levels with a little more than half currently occupied while 35 percent of the region’s 830 ventilators are in use.
Of the NCR’s 706 ICU beds, 63 percent are occupied, along with 52 percent of 4,000 isolation beds and 56 percent of 1,800 ward beds.
In Region 7 (Central Visayas), 21 percent of 161 ICU beds are occupied, along with 31 percent of 1,200 isolation beds and 24 percent of 431 ward beds, while only 17 percent of the region’s 169 ventilators are in use.
In Region 4-A (Calabarzon), occupied are 52 percent of 187 ICU beds, 53 percent of 1,500 isolation beds, and 52 percent of 556 ward beds, while 21 percent of its 266 ventilators are in use. (PNA)
