MANILA – Church officials in the country headed by Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula will lead the Fiesta Mass of the Immaculate Conception at the Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception popularly known as the Manila Cathedral on Thursday morning.

In a social media post, the Manila Cathedral invited the faithful to join the mass at 11:00 a.m., to be concelebrated with Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown.

“The 11:00 a.m. mass will be our Fiesta Mass that will be presided by Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula, concelebrated with the Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown,” it said.

Aside from the Fiesta Mass, three other Masses will be celebrated on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the Manila Cathedral and of the Philippines, at 8:00 am, 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Dec. 8.

The Manila Cathedral said those who will attend the Eucharistic Celebrations will be getting a medal.

“As our gift to those who will be joining us at the Cathedral for the feast day of the Immaculate Conception, we will be giving each a medal inscribed with the Holy Name of Mary, with the prayer Sub Tum Presidium: 'We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God'. This coming December 8, let us entrust ourselves and the whole country under the protection of Mary, our Mother,” it added.

The Minor Basilica is also bringing back the Fiesta Tradition by allowing the faithful to go up the Sanctuary where the image of Virgin Mary is placed.

“After two years into the pandemic, we are bringing back our Fiesta tradition of allowing the faithful to go up the sanctuary after the celebration of Masses so that they could come near the image of the Immaculate Conception and offer their homage and prayers to our Lady. Let us fly to the protection of our Lady and allow her to cover us under her mantle of motherly protection,” the Manila Cathedral said.

Dec. 8, is a non-working holiday. (PNA)
