MANILA – The Philippine National Police Press Corps (PNPPC) would hold its first invitational shoot fest from July 14 to 16, as part of its efforts to enhance self-defense capability of its members.

Former PNP chief and now Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and incumbent PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. will serve as guests of honor and speakers in the event to be held at the shooting range of Camp Karingal in Sikatuna Village, Quezon City.

It is a Level 1 Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA)-sanctioned match with five stages and 120 rounds for handguns and Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC).

PNPPC president Mar Gabriel said the shoot fest will also come with an onsite caravan for the processing of the renewal and new application of License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF).

In holding the event, Gabriel emphasized the need for every journalist to be prepared for any eventuality in the line of their work.

“This event is aimed at encouraging our brothers and sisters in the media profession to seek another alternative in protecting themselves despite the recent spate of attacks in our ranks,” he added.

Gabriel said the PNPPC has been very active in programs and activities that seek to protect the media from harassment and attacks.

He added that the first PNPPC invitational shoot fest will also serve as a fundraising activity for emergency financial assistance for members in the event of harassment and attacks.
