CEBU CITY – The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 (Central Visayas) said Tuesday the deployment of police officers to major tourist destinations is in place as Operation Plan Summer Vacation starts.
Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, PRO-7 spokesperson, said their operations division has been gathering data to determine how many personnel would be assigned to each tourist spot and what areas are visited the most.
"We start assessing as to when the deployment will commence. We should know the place with the flow of visitors, as well as the transport hub where people take their rides," he said.
Pelare said PRO-7 has not received any report of a threat to security in Central Visayas this summer season but emphasized the need for readiness in case of untoward incidents.
"The people in Central Visayas are assured that they are safe. We are intensifying our intelligence to assure the safety and security in the region," he said.
PRO-7 chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin has instructed all police units to conduct regular inspections in areas where visitors converge, as well as the tourist destinations frequented by travelers, he added.
Cebu is a favorite destination for both local and international visitors who want to experience the hospitality of the Cebuanos, the pristine beaches, and other tourist spots, and the delicacies. (PNA)
