‘Bising’ costs DSWD P4.2-M in relief aid

MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed more than PHP4 million worth of assistance to families affected by Typhoon Bising last week.

The DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center report showed a total of PHP4,246,358.20 were distributed among local government units in the Cagayan Valley, Eastern Visayas, Bicol, and Caraga regions as of Thursday.

Data indicated almost 100,000 families, or 410,895 individuals, in 1,159 barangays from the four regions were affected.

The DSWD said of the 2,952 affected houses, 144 were destroyed and 2,808 were damaged.

All 14,951 families, comprising 58,431 persons, who took temporary shelter in 737 evacuation centers have returned home.

Over the weekend, the 24,519 families with 93,827 persons who stayed with their relatives and friends have also returned home.
